      • Actually it was McCone's CIA that tried to start a color revolution (invasion) of Cuba in the 1960s. JFK was probably very against it, as he was against expanding the Vietnam efforts. Vietnam Took LBJ to send troops, Ladybird Johnson's holdings in Bell helicopter would obviously have had NOTHING to do with it.

    • ¿Maybe this way, in the long run, people will understand that socialism/communism doesn't really turn out so well? Then again, they didn't take the lesson of what happened to the Soviet Union, ¿did they? At least a bloody war didn't have to happen, ¿right?

          • Socialism is referred to as Communism light. Socialism almost always leads to Communism. That’s why those that follow the teachings of Engels and Marx are so closely aligned with Muslims. They have very similar philosophies.

          • Correct. And yes. I hate Socialism. Want nothing to do with it. Wish we would cut Europe off but for 100% reciprocal trade. All except some good countries like Hungary.
            Make UK and Europe stand on their own and not tax and vat and unfair trade us to death for their support and gain.
            But it is communism that brings the murder, destroy, taking, and enslavement out in the open.

But not for the government to rebuild, but a private-public partnership to renovate the island while protecting the architecture, churches, etc. 3,500 miles of shoreline for development, although some should be protected from overdevelopment, and the population is significantly Christian which means substantially conservative. The Cuban people are quite capable of rebuilding their home if they are not blocked by a tyrannical government.

      • The typical cuban is hard working, and ingenious in finding out of the box solutions. The problem is they've had three generations of communists trying to beat those attributes out of them. They will need support to come to a rational republican capitalist society.

    • Unless I misunderstand your comment, no, not a state. A territory, perhaps and we would need to think long and hard on that as the taxpayers would be on the hook to rebuild their infrastructure.

        • Freedom I agree with. Democracy, that's a whole other issue that the majority of Americans are confused about.
          The US is not a democracy, it's a constitutional republic. Way different than a democracy.
          I say let's see what the current Cuban leadership is asking for and go from there. Obviously they are watching and seeing what our capabilities are and they know they can't ever hope to deal with anything remotely similar to what we're doing in Iran.
          Regardless, anyone that's ever been associated with Castro et al, needs to be barred from being in gov't, and maybe a provisional gov't needs to be installed temporarily, a la Iraq, to give the citizens there the time to decide what type of gov't they want that includes 'fair' elections. No pun intended.
          It eventually worked out in Iraq to the point there are many females serving in gov't and some even hold high positions which was never allowed under Saddam.

  86. I have friends with family still in Cuba, and it's difficult for them to talk about what these poor people have been enduring recently. Cuba is a place where I would happily take a vacation and spend my money, but only if I know the people and not the corrupt govt are benefiting from my tourism dollars.

      • I have many American friends who have flown to Cuba to vacation. The Castros love American currency spent there.

        • There’s been a U.S. ban on traveling there for more than 60 years — you’re banned from going to Cuba for vacations. If traveling there is authorized by the U.S. government for “educational” or “humanitarian” trips, some people do go. But why would any American want to give a dictatorship money to help oppress the people of Cuba? That’s despicable on your friends’ parts.
