Maria Corina Machado was welcomed in Norway after her daughter delivered a beautiful acceptance speech in her absence.
Maria Corina Machado arrived in Norway in the middle of the night. She hadn’t been seen in public since January. Machado was interviewed after she arrived in Oslo .
The 58-year-old made the covert journey despite a travel ban and a threat from the Venezuelan government that she would be labelled as a fugitive.
“They [the Venezuelan government] say I’m a terrorist and have to be in jail for the rest of my life, and they’re looking for me,” she said.
“So leaving Venezuela today, in these circumstances, is very, very dangerous.”
Maria Corina Machado’s daughter accepted her mother’s Nobel Peace Prize earlier in the day, and she read her mother’s speech to the Nobel Committee. During her speech, she notified the audience that her mother was on the way.

Daughter Ana also shared that she would be seeing her mother for the first time in two years. This was very emotional and beautiful. The daughter did so well in reading her mother’s speech. It was perfect.
This is the story of a people and their long march toward freedom.
