A video of the event was released shortly after it occurred.
(There were reports after the altercation that the prisoner who attacked Peters was let go on parole a short time after the altercation took place, but these reports are yet unsubstantiated.)
Today, the Prison Board Ruled that Peters Acted in Self-Defense.
Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters was found not guilty today in a Colorado Department of Corrections disciplinary hearing stemming from an altercation with another inmate. Video of this incident was widely circulated. But after carefully looking at the facts, the Board concluded that Tina Peters acted in self-defense, after being attacked and cornered by a 29-year old inmate.
“Today, reason and truth prevailed,” said Tina Peters.
“I was found not guilty. The Department of Corrections fairly considered the evidence and concluded that I defended myself. I’m thankful that the Board carefully considered the evidence and was not swayed by media coverage.”

The Judiciary in the State of Colorado is at total mess. It’s sick that when an innocent woman who is wrongly placed in prison on made-up charges for doing her job, gets assaulted in prison, and the good news is she is found innocent.
