5. I get more enjoyment out of reading that our soccer team prays together …. than them winning the match. Just never cared about soccer.

    • So far these are easy opponents. The top teams are all European except for Japan, Brazil and Argentina. The US got a pretty easy group this time, though not because it's the host country.
      However, it should be noted that the last time the US won two games in a row in a football world championship was in 1930. So this is something. Commentators have noted that the US team is much better than it was in the past.

      • I understand the FIFA organization would ideally have a US versus UK finals on July 4th in Philadelphia. Allegedly, that is why the groups are organized the way they are right now.

    • I remember football in high school. The best receivers, d-backs, tight ends and running backs were soccer players too. Several played both offense and defense. Non soccer players had nowhere near the stamina of the guys who played "that silly kickball thing." Both soccer and football teams won championships.

I'm 67, ever since I was a kid the powers that be have been telling us that soccer was the biggest sport in the world…..I never cared at all about it, about as exciting as watching grass grow or paint dry. The fact that we have brought the third world here to play their game doesn't matter at all to me. Haven't watched and won't.
