Report #30 – The UnderDog Says:

Last weekend, Russell Brand, an English comedian, actor, with many other talents, was baptized into the Christian faith by his own choice. He shared his thoughts on his X/Twitter Account (@RustyRockets) before and after his baptism.

He said it was a profound experience. At his age, he realized there are no material things EVER, able resolve his or anyone else’s loneliness, despair, and helplessness, regardless of their personal success. He was blessed and went on to say, based on what a Hindu Monk once told him, that the material world will only take, not give to you. He was shocked by these words when spoken to him but later in life found them to be true.

This is not something to be shocked about. In this world we have two simple choices, to worship the things created by God, or to worship the Creator God Himself.

Here’s an Analogy – You are desperate to get to a place that seemed inaccessible, and then discovered a road that would take you there. Would you marvel at the road’s construction and decide to worship it instead of following it to your desired destination? Unfortunately, many people do exactly this, they worship the creation, not the creator, that created the creation (Say that five times fast). Surely the creator is greater than anything He created.

In this way, nothing in this world, seen or unseen, created by God, can be greater than God. It’s that simple.

Russell went on to post that with the trust in the government and the media decreasing quickly, there is no reason we should be surprised more and more are turning to God like he did. He even went on to describe his “sins of the past” being washed away when he was baptized in water and said, “You can never have enough of what you don’t really want,” referring to what the world and materialism has to offer. He even promoted C.S. Lewis’ book “Mere Christianity” (See Photo) on one of his Podcasts. He went on to say his baptism was an awakening, a humble place, and he would pray for others and thanked those praying for him.

We should all have joy and ‘re-joice’ (Joy, repeated and repeated) whenever anyone accepts Jesus Christ:

Luke 15:6-7, 10 (NIV) ‘…Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent…10 I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

There is joy in heaven whenever someone repents, more so than for those who have already. That makes sense. Imagine a Landslide and the rescue workers are pulling people out alive and giving them medical treatment and food. For every new person rescued, everyone cheers and rejoices for their new life. They don’t cheer again for those already saved as they desperately try to save others. Can you imagine the first person rescued complaining they were not cheering for him again? He would be ostracized.

You can see the real impact Russell Brand’s baptism had on him and how sincere he is about his experience. And we who are Christians, just like those angels in heaven, rejoice for one sinner who repents.

Acts 26:22 (KJV) Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

Russell Brand is a significant public figure, and his acceptance of the Christian faith is quite an event. We hope many celebrities, politicians, and anyone who hears his story, will make the same decision. We hope that Russell will influence many to at least consider Christ. All are welcome by Him. But truthfully, we rarely hear stories from the popular, the celebrities, the stars. It’s simply much more difficult for them. They have their careers, positions, superiors, family, and friends. These all expect, even demand, they don’t become a Christian. We rejoice when this happens, no matter how rare. By the same token, being so difficult for them should not stop us from trying to persuade them.

Acts 26:28-29 (KJV) 28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. 29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

Agrippa was a Roman King who knew the Jewish ways and understood their hope for a Messiah. It is a shame he only “almost” became a Christian. We should all, like Paul, be speaking about Christ to both the great and the small, both the popular and the lowly, the celebrities and those in relative obscurity.  Christ is the answer for all.

Remember, we are told 11 times in the NT to obey our higher authorities, but there is only one time where it is noted where believers specifically disobeyed them (Read UnderDog Report #6). And the context was too ONLY to speak the word of God. So we obey, except when our first amendment rights are being restrained that we must “‘Obey God not man.”
