SOULMATES
There’s a new TV show out on Netflix with six episode called “Soulmates.” The first episode the premise is interesting, while the remaining five are horrible. No wonder it was cancelled. The series tells of a future where the “Soul Connex” company uses a ground breaking technology to discover a “soul particle” that matches any human with their ONE AND ONLY TRUE SOULMATE. Deep in the Brain of every human they found a particle that connects and interconnects with only one other human being on the face of the Earth. It’s the promise of the perfect match.
This is not how God created us, but we’ll get into that shortly.
The first episode is excellent, however, the remaining five are horrible and I strongly recommend you don’t bother with them, especially Episode Six which is about suicide. It’s an absolutely horrible episode where a Christian pastor and his church convinces a large group of people to commit mass suicide by mis-using Bible verses. This is all because their soulmate is dead and the implication is the one and only person they could ever be matched with is gone, so they should kill themselves.
This is the traditional way Netflix introduces new shows, the first ones seems fine, and the following ones are propaganda.
Episode Overview
- Soul Connex matched millions with their “soul particle” test. This is the logical conclusion of all dating apps, if you believe science is better than the Bible.
- The couple has been married for years with children and a stable life, but lots of friends are taking “The Test” and getting matched. These people seem happier than she, which causes her to doubt her relationship.
- Their friends take the test and get great results ,at first, although later cracks do appear. Still, people are jealous. Is her marriage is “enough.” Is she missing out on the best match ever, the best life ever.
- But, her husband takes the test gets matched, and leaves her to be with his “true soulmate.” They get divorced and go to be with their soulmates, but at the end they both regret the decision. In other words, a computer or a new technology does not define wh are best mate is. This is the lesson of the first episode.
The Bible tells us it’s never too late to have your best life ever and it’s never too late to have a happy childhood. Your best life ever is one decision away.
So this show is about ultimately compatibility, so let’s look at how important compatibility is:

Simple Math the Bible’s Way
Remember, two things equal to the same thing are equal to each other. So God is a Spirit, God is Love, God is Light. That means God, Spirit, Love, and Light could all be substituted for each other.
John 4:24 “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
1 John 4:8 “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
1 John 1:5 “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
Let’s have some fun, here are two of the top 2025 songs with the word “Love” in the title. Let’s substitute the word “Love” for the words , “God, Spirit, or Light!”

I challenge you, whenever you see the word “love” to substitute it the word “God, Light, or Spirit” in the sentence. It will add an increased definition and your understanding about what is being said.
Love is Not Complicated, Compatibility Is
Forbes reports the lack of compatibility is the top reason for new couples to divorce, with 59% of couples who divorced in their first year citing this cause. People believe compatibility is the main thing for staying together, but is it really?[2]
People change all the time and then say “we’ve grown apart we’re no longer compatible.” Is that what you want to base a lifelong relationship on? I say no.
Love is a decision, it’s a day-to-day decision you make. The standard for being together should not your feelings, or your compatibility. The standard has to exist outside of each individual person to be meaningful. If two parties agree to a set of standards outside of their internal feelings or compatibility issues, that’s a much stronger bond. Those standard, that bond is found in the Bible.
Love is a Barometer
The Bible provides a wealth of information about relationships about how a man and woman should act together, and once you follow those guidelines, compatibility is no longer the main issue.
Love is not a thermometer, Love is a barometer. What I mean is it’s not where you’re “at” in your relationship that counts, it’s where you’re “going.” It’s the same way with God, it’s not where you’re at with your relationship with God, it’s where you are going with it.
Here’s a simple example, you could be the poorest person in the world, receive a simple meal and thank God as the happiest person on the planet. On the other hand, you could be a worldwide billionaire with a yacht and houses all over the world and could be miserable. You see, it’s not where you’re at its where you’re going that counts and that why Christianity is so appealing, because we know where were are going.
The Truth About Compatibility
Compatibility can mean many things to different people, but the basic elements include values, ideas, habits, preferences, interpersonal and communication styles that have a lot in common. Are these really important, let’s see what the Bible says:
Matthew 11:29-30 (NIV) 29 Take my yoke (bond) upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Now wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing for a husband to say to his wife, or for a wife to say her husband? To say to one another:
1. To take my yoke (this is a two-way message)
2. To learn from each other (this is a two-way message)
3. To be gentle with each other
4. To be humble in our relationship
5. To will find rest in each other
6. To make their bond easy (no drama, not causing each other grief)
7. To make my yoke (burden) light. To not impose heavy inconveniences to one another
Isn’t that fantastic Picture of marriage! I would encourage all married couples to read this verse to each other in turn.
Being Equally Yoked (Bonded to One Another)
Let me explain what being yoked was all about in the Bible. When oxen were plowing a field, it was very important for them to keep a straight line. They would yoke an experienced oxen with a young inexperienced one. In this way, the older one would guide the younger one on the correct way to plow. If two young oxen’s were plowing, the burrows would be all over the field.
This is Jesus relationship with us, he guides us, he doesn’t force us, along straight path but we must decide to follow his lead. So in a marriage the husband and wife are equally yoked to the external standard of Jesus Christ. If the husband is Yoke to Christ and the wife is yoke to him, they will be together. Likewise, if the wife is yoke to Christ and the husband is yoked to her, they will be together. The third external party is Jesus. See the photo of the yoked oxen to the right.
The Most Quoted, Misunderstood, and Argued About Verse in the Bible
1 Corinthians 11:3 (NIV) But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
This verse says the head of the man is Jesus Christ, as the head of woman is the man. So our relationship with Jesus Christ is the standard on how a man treats his wife. Has Jesus Christ ever asked the man get him a beer, take out the garbage, or wash the dishes? NO!
Jesus is NOT the dominating Boss man, not at all. Our relationship with Jesus is we go to him with our problems and he provides us loving responses, the same relationship with our wife and it does doesn’t mean her husband can’t go to his wife in the same way.
So, decide to be compatible with one another and use the Bible as your standard of Love!
