The Phenomenon Caitlin Clark and Iowa Set a New Ratings Record in Game Against UConn Friday Night

On Monday Clark and Iowa set a ratings record which they beat last night.

On Monday night the Iowa women and Caitlin Clark set a record for the most watched women’s basketball game ever with 12.3 million viewers.

Most Watched Women’s College Basketball Game Ever – 12.3 Million Watch the Iowa – LSU Game

Last night the Iowa Hawkeyes and Clark broke their record from Monday night in their game against UConn.

On Friday, the Hawkeyes and UConn Huskies set a new record.

ESPN says that 14.2 million viewers watched Friday night’s Final Four game between the Hawkeyes and Huskies, shattering the record that had been set earlier in the week.

In total, the Final Four drew an average of 10.8 million between Iowa-UConn and South Carolina-NC State.

That makes them the most viewed women’s national semifinal games of all time, a testament to the growth of women’s basketball over the last number of years.

The viewership for the women’s semifinal games is up 138% year-over-year, and many believed that last year’s ratings were impressive.

There’s potential for an even higher number when it comes to Sunday’s national title game. The Hawkeyes will be facing an undefeated South Carolina in what will be Caitlin Clark’s final college game.

ESPN shared that the South Carolina game averaged 7.1 million viewers or about half that of the Iowa game.

Iowa‘s 71-69 victory over UConn at the women’s Final Four on Friday night averaged 14.2 million viewers on ESPN, making it the most-viewed women’s basketball game on record and the largest audience for an ESPN basketball broadcast.

The previous women’s hoops mark was 12.3 million for last Monday’s Iowa-LSU game in the Elite Eight. Game 7 of the 2018 NBA Eastern Conference finals between Cleveland and Boston was ESPN’s most-watched basketball game at 13.51 million.

The Iowa-UConn matchup is also one of the most-viewed games in any sport other than college football and the NFL over the past couple years. Last year’s NCAA men’s basketball title game between San Diego State and UConn averaged 14.79 million.

The Hawkeyes game, which saw the audience peak at 17 million, will likely go down as one of the top 50 primetime telecasts of 2024. It would have finished 32nd on last year’s list.

This is not about the women’s game so much as it is about a phenom – Caitlin Clark who shattered all the records in women’s basketball related to scoring this past season.

The game against South Carolina will be huge.
