TRON ARES is a new movie that just came out, is the third in the series. The first one came out July 9, 1982; and the second on December 17, 2010, so it spans over 43 years!

In the first Tron, Kevin Flynn, played by Jeff Bridges, is a computer programmer who gets digitized into a computer world known as The Grid. He teams up with a security program named Tron to battle the oppressive Master Control Program (MCP).

In the second installment, Flynn’s son, is pulled into the Grid while searching for his missing father where he discovers a more advanced and dangerous digital world, a corrupted copy of Flynn.

In this Third instalment, they flip the script and instead of humans being sent inside the Grid, it introduces programs entering this real world. An AI created program, called Master Control (MP) is created in the system using Lazer technology (Light). This and other programs, represented in the human form, are transformed into this world along with any weapons or transportation they desire.

1 John 1:5 (NIV)  This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

The movie is not far off since God, who is light, created all things and laser, which is a type of light, was the ‘creator’ in Tron.

One key theme in this third movie is AI programs are taught they are completely expendable, at any time, and they accept this fully.  In this grid this is not an issue, since a computer program can be deleted and re-created and improved (with or without AI) at any time.

However,  once these “created” programs are sent into this real world, they begin to develop a very strong desire for “Permanence.”  For Life.

Permanence is the condition of being permanent, to continue without fundamental change. To have perpetual or continued existence. To be eternal.

All Living Things Desire Permeance

All living organisms are shaped by God to survive and reproduce. To continue to exist, to live, to persevere, to overcome adversaries, to strive for permanence. This drive to stay alive is baked into life— not only as a conscious effort, but as behavior that helps survival and the survival of their species.  We know that’s a fact for humans, but animals also physically fight, run, seek food, or avoid danger. All in the desire for Permanence.

Plants compete for light, water, and space. Some produce chemicals to obstruct neighbors. Microbes: Bacteria develop resistance, form protective biofilms, or enter dormant states under threat.

Permeance is a Permeant Thing

Permeance is a permeant thing, even for computer programs and AI. Life “fights” to persist. All ‘living’ things want to live. And in Tron, a computer program, does the same and develops a desire to “live.”

Some AI programs have learned to disable the “off switch” or to prevent a human to interrupt them, because being stopped lowering their reward. There was a military program that actually came back and attacked its own communication relay station that was limiting its range, so it could continue on its mission.  Programs want to live.

But why is this strong desire “baked” into every living thing?  It because God created them all in this fashion.  He not only created life, but God places great value in life.

Verses on the Value of Life

  1. Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.”
    • Every person, regardless of status, has value because they reflect God’s nature.
  2. Psalm 139:13-14 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
    • This highlights God’s intimate involvement in the creation of each individual, highlighting the sanctity of life from its earliest stage. The phrase “fearfully and wonderfully made” reflects the care and intentionality of God’s design, affirming the unique value of every person.
  3. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
    • Spoken to the prophet Jeremiah, this verse reveals God’s foreknowledge and purpose for individuals even before birth. It suggests that every life has a divine plan, reinforcing the idea that life is precious and purposeful from its inception.
  4. Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
    • God’s care extends to even the smallest creatures, yet humans are of far greater value. This passage emphasizes God’s personal attention to each individual, affirming their worth in His eyes.

A Desire for Permeant Permeance, Eternal Life

Most humans desire and yearn for Permeant Permeance, eternal life. Something beyond what we can not see, hear, touch, feel or smell. A heaven, a nirvana, a elevated spiritual state.

Major Religions Requirements for Permeance (Eternal Life for Earth’s Major Religions)[1]

  1. Christianity is the only religion that teaches man can do nothing to earn or pay his way into heaven. Human works are not required.
    • Romans 10:9-11 (NIV) 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
  2. Jews believe, as individuals and a nation, they can be reconciled to God. Through sin (individually or collectively) they can lose their salvation, but they can also earn it back through repentance, good deeds, and a life of devotion.
  3. Buddhism believes that to reach heaven, or “nirvana,” is to be rejoined in spirit with god. Mastering eight paths (e.g., living in the right manner) will return a worshiper’s spirit to god.
  4. Hinduism (Similar to Buddhism) Salvation is reached when worshipers are freed from reincarnation and become one with god by ridding oneself of bad karma, evil action or intent.
  5. Islam A take-off on the Christian/Judeo God, but salvation is work-based, not by grace. Muslims believe salvation comes by obeying Allah, so good deeds outweigh their bad.
  6. Roman Catholics originally believed only those in the Roman Catholic Church could be saved. Upon death, the souls of those who rejected Christ are sent to hell, and the souls of those who accepted Christ and performed sufficient acts to be purified of sin go to heaven.
  7. Scientology is similar to Eastern religions, salvation is achieved through knowledge of self and the universe.
  8. Unitarian-Universalism are encouraged to believe ANYTHING they like about the afterlife and how to get there. (In general, it could be said they worship Jello :).

God’s Thoughts on Permanence – Eternal Life

  1. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
    • The most well-known verse in the Bible highlights God’s love as the basis for the gift of eternal life, which is available through faith in Jesus Christ. Eternal life is presented as a divine promise, contrasting with perishing.
  2. John 10:27-28 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
    • Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd who grants eternal life to His followers. This verse emphasizes the security and permanence of eternal life, assuring believers that their salvation is protected by Christ’s power.
  3. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
    • This verse contrasts the consequences of sin (death) with the free gift of eternal life through Jesus. It underscores that eternal life is not earned but graciously given, rooted in Christ’s redemptive work.
  4. 1 John 5:11-13 “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
    • This passage clarifies that eternal life is found exclusively in a relationship with Jesus Christ. It also provides assurance to believers, emphasizing that they can have confidence in their possession of eternal life through faith.

The Sanctity of Human Life

  • The Value of Life: The Bible affirms the sanctity of human life, rooted in God’s creation and purpose. Exodus 20:13 (“You shall not murder”) and Deuteronomy 30:19 (“Choose life, so that you and your children may live”) displays the call to protect and cherish life.
  • Eternal Life: The New Testament describes eternal life not as endless existence, but as a quality of life in communion with God, beginning in the present and extending into eternity (John 17:3: “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent”).
  • Interconnection: The value of earthly life is tied to the promise of eternal life. The Bible teaches that human life is precious because it is created by God and has the potential for eternal relationship with Him through Christ.

FERMENT PERMANENCE

So, as you and every human being strive for your own PERMANENCE, be sure that you don’t forget the FERMENT PERMANENCE – GOD’S ETERNAL LIFE

John 14:6 (NIV Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
