Team USA Wins – Goes to the Sweet 16 Round Against Belgium

At the beginning of the game, the entire stadium in red, white, and blue sang the National Anthem.

The US’s best scorer scored a goal right before halftime.

Here was the US’s second goal to ice the game.

The Whole stadium sang “Country Roads” after the win – wow.

A sad note to the game is that the US will be without its best goal scorer, who was kicked out of the game for what looked like incidental contact with a Bosnian player. The ref thought otherwise, and the player won’t be able to play in the next game.

          • The point is foreigners are taking 30% of the positions supposed to be for Americans. Do you get it now? The same as baseball where 40% are hispanic and Japanese and Chinese when American boys deserve those positions.

            Defensive errors have been in decline for the last few years, not ballooning. Those are easily found stats, you are speaking from your feelings, not facts.             Being born on the country’s territory

            A biological parent being born there

            A grandparent being born there

          • The only link to the US is in the paycheck, and no soccer team is considered American. American sports are Baseball, Hockey, Basketball and Football, Europe has made soccer a feminine sport. Sorry that’s just the facts.

  3. Appears to be a lot of acting going on with the players falling to the ground in what appears to be great agaony, yet within five minutes they are up on their feet running like normal. ????

    • It's annoying as elle but strategic. It stops the opponent's momentum, provides extra time at the end of the half and end of the game and it gives players on the field a chance to recover.

  5. I played plenty of fútbol and scored plenty of goals in my time and watching other guys play and score goals does absolutely nothing for me. I do understand, though it is something that brings people together, so it's not a bad thing. Better than wars being currently fought.

        • Yes, neither is American football and yet many can’t play it either while those who could, grasp a lot others don’t grasp.

          In Soccer, little kids do not understand things that the adult players grasp. Those adults are playing to learn the weaknesses of their opponents, they want to have a strong spine down the middle, they want to do much to figure out the best ways to attack the opponents. It is more than kicking a ball around and trying to make the ball go through a goal.

          People who don’t know it ought to learn a little from those adults who do know it. Then come back and talk about the boring game….

    • My sentiments exactly. If they made the goal bigger, or put a size limitation on the goalies like they do jockeys, the game would be much more entertaining. Nobody wants to watch a game where there is wasted effort for 99.9% of the clock.

  20. Usually refs start rigging games in the final 8 and occasionally earlier to protect the home team (not gonna happen in the US, I'm sure)… that rapid red card suggests the ass-holery that usually makes the last few games less meaningful may start a little early this year.

  21. The Ref was working hard to screw the US men's team. That red card he gave to Balogun (our top striker / scorer) was terrible. Not only did we have to play a man down for 37+ minutes, but he won't be allowed to play next game vs Belgium either.

  25. In regard to the red card being given to Folarin Balogun, how can the referee see the instant replay with his own eyes and decide Balogun deserved the red flag? What happened was a total accident and not done on purpose, nor was it some irresponsible thing done by Balogun. I have heard many soccer people (or "football" or whatever they call the sport) talk about it and not even one of them agreed the referee did the right thing.

    Now, because of this brain-dead ruling by that referee that took away the best player, the U.S. chances of beating Belgium are not that great.

    • When someone says Soccer is the most boring sport in the world, obviously the person clearly does not understand it. It is quite a complicated sport which would require someone who actually fathoms the depth of it to explain it to you over the period of several games to begin grasping how important each position on the field is to the team and so on….

      The above article mentions the best goal scorer is out for the US in the next game. However, the US has others who will prove worthy of being on this team. It isn't like a great QB being out of the game and no one to fill his shoes. They are all great futbol players on team USA. They will all have to come to the game against Belgium with their heads on right to defeat Belgium and they can do it.
