Sophie Cunningham, Caitlin Clark’s Teammate and Enforcer, Calls Out WNBA for Attacks

Sophie Cunningham, teammate of Caitlin Clark, called out the WNBA for the constant attacks on Caitlin Clark.  Cunningham launched a withering attack on the WNBA and its referees after the Indiana Fever star was punched in the throat by an opponent this week.

Last year, Cunningham came to Clark’s rescue after Clark was brutally attacked by three opposing players in a game.

Cunningham was traded to the Indiana Fever in the 2025 off-season.  She showed what a great move that was for all involved last year. Cunningham became the enforcer at the end of one game as she took down Connecticut Sun’s Jacy Sheldon with 47 seconds left.

This was in retaliation for Sheldon and the Sun’s harassment and assaults of Caitlin Clark during the game.  The Sun players bounced Clark around like a beach ball. (Clark ended up getting a technical foul on this series of events – wth – the WNBA refs are horrible).

Cunningham looked like she liked what she was doing when she threw Sheldon to the court just like a rag doll.

In a recent game, Cunningham made fun of a Sun player – this went viral.

This week, Caitlin Clark was brutally assaulted again during a game. She suffered injuries and was unable to play last night. The assaults continue and the WNBA, the refs, management, its parent – the NBA, and players, and her coach seemingly promote it.

    • Hockey has ENFORCERS. Not College Women's Basketball. Or College Men's Basketball.
      Men's basketball has a couple of 'em, but that's it
      Women's Professional Basketball is just not the same game as the college game.
      If it was, nobody would need to have an "Enforcer"
      WNBA IS EVERY BIT AS MUCH A SPORT AS ROLLERDERBY! NOT ANY MORE.

          • I believe every player has to take 2 semesters of ACTING before they're allowed on the field.

        • Rather watch roller derby than felonious assaults on a regular basis. Clark needs to sue the league and the officials for breach of ethics and the NBA for aiding and abetting the commission of multiple crimes. In a fair courtroom the case wouldn't be difficult to make. Can you imagine if she sued and won a piece or all of the league? Wouldn't that make contract negotiations interesting? She should also sue each opposing coach and team owner for not only allowing but encouraging physical violence.
          Maybe the FCC should get involved in the regular broadcasting of criminal behavior by "female thugs"!

      • Hockey has enforcers because it is, and always has been, a violent sport with body contact as part of the game. Basketball is supposed to be a non-contact sport, but has increasingly become a contact sport. Very slowly until about 25 years ago, when the it began to accelerate to through professional league acceptance of violence and re-interpreting of many of the rules. Today, IMHO, it has become unwatchable. For that matter, most of professional "sport" has become unwatchable.

Had there been no brutality Most of us would know nothing or very little of the WNBA. The new fans don't celebrate their perversions and want to see skill and talent instead. Being street thugs in shorts is not a sport and their version of BB is no fun to watch. They have allowed things that were once fouls in normal BB to become non-fouls in the WNBA. They allow bumping the ball handler while she is dribbling and puting both hands on or around her. The number of ghost fouls called on CC have been documented. Without change at the top, there will be no improvement.

  128. I'm all for the Fever and for Caitlin Clark; but, Joe Hoft either doesn't know squat about basketball; or, he's trying to get clicks. Thomas DID NOT punch Collins in the throat,nor did one of the other three Dream players around Clark knee Clark in the groin.

    I played high school varsity basketball; have a black belt in karate; and, have a PhD in human anatomy.

    It you view all of the various video aspects of Clark's stumble and ball fumble, you will see that the knee never touched Clark's groin, nor the rest of Clark's body. The Dream player was purposely careful about this.

    And if you watch Thomas, she was off-balance getting up and ended up stumbling over Clark. But while Thomas was getting ready to get up, she purposely extended the knuckles of her right hand and her right elbow to try to make stiff-armed contact with Clark to help Thomas rise; but, Thomas didn't make firm contact with Clark. There was NO punch. If Thomas had extended her arm further, her knuckles would have made contact with either Clark's collar bone or Clark's shoulder. Her knuckles were nowhere near Clark's throat, and were lateral to Clark's side of the neck.

    The refs got this right; but, the WNBA front office (and Joe Hoft) got it very wrong.

  129. I read somewhere that Cunningham has martial arts training, and is not afraid to use it. The refs don't even see a lot of her moves, but the opposing players feel them.
