Joseph Raymond McCarthy was a United States Senator from Wisconsin who rose to national prominence in the early 1950s because he dared to confront a reality that much of the American establishment preferred to ignore. He believed communism was not merely a foreign threat but an internal one. McCarthy understood that America’s adversaries did not always arrive in military uniforms or foreign armies. Sometimes they arrived through institutions, ideas, influence networks, and political movements that slowly reshaped public opinion and government policy from within.
His fight took place during one of the most dangerous periods in modern history. Joseph Stalin controlled Eastern Europe behind the Iron Curtain. Mao Zedong had consolidated communist rule over China. The Soviet Union had successfully penetrated American institutions through espionage networks that reached into the highest levels of government. Communist parties, front organizations, propagandists, and fellow travelers operated throughout the Western world.
The release of the Venona decrypts confirmed extensive Soviet espionage inside the United States government. Former communist courier Whittaker Chambers provided firsthand testimony and documentary evidence on his book “Witness”. Bella Dodd, once a prominent Communist Party organizer, later described deliberate efforts to infiltrate labor unions, educational institutions, and even religious organizations. What many dismissed as conspiracy theories often proved to have substantial factual foundations. In fact, she was quoted with stating, “When I was organizing for the Communist Party back in the 1930s, I helped place over a thousand communist men in Catholic seminaries”.
I speak with some personal knowledge of this history because I was fortunate enough to know Roy Cohn, Senator McCarthy’s chief counsel and closest lieutenant. Roy was my mentor and my friend. He was brilliant, fearless, relentless, and utterly unwilling to be intimidated by conventional wisdom. Roy believed subversive movements thrived on ambiguity. He demanded specificity. Who are you? What did you do? Where did you do it? When did you do it? Why should the American people trust you with influence and power? These simple questions often proved devastating because they forced witnesses to confront facts rather than hide behind slogans and abstractions. Roy understood that polite surrender is simply a slower form of defeat. He believed dangerous ideas should be exposed before they become entrenched. Whether one agreed with every tactic he employed is beside the point. He recognized that institutions rarely police themselves and that uncomfortable truths often require uncomfortable questions.
One of the most controversial figures McCarthy targeted was Owen Lattimore. Lattimore was a prominent writer and adviser for the State Department on Far Eastern affairs who exerted significant influence on policy discussions concerning China. McCarthy argued that Lattimore’s influence consistently benefited communist interests while undermining anti-communist allies. The establishment dismissed such concerns as reckless accusations. Yet the broader question remains relevant today. How much influence should unelected intellectuals, academics, and policy experts exercise over decisions that affect the fate of nations? Author M. Stanton Evans’ book “Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies” delves into Lattimore and the State Department quite extensively. It’s a book I recommend every American read and then read it again. If you’re one of those whose opinion of Senator McCarthy is negative, I promise you’ll be persuaded to change your thinking about McCarthy and HUAC upon reading M. Stanton Evans’ book.
The lessons of that era remain relevant because communist strategy has always depended more on influence than force. The objective was never simply military conquest. The objective was cultural and institutional transformation. Capture education. Capture entertainment. Capture journalism. Capture bureaucracy. Capture language itself. Convince citizens that traditional beliefs are outdated and that centralized authority is necessary for progress. This strategy has proven remarkably successful. Universities that once celebrated intellectual diversity increasingly enforce ideological conformity. Corporate America often embraces political agendas that would have been considered radical only a generation ago. Major media organizations frequently function as political actors rather than neutral observers. Hollywood continues to shape cultural narratives that often portray faith, patriotism, and traditional institutions as objects of suspicion rather than sources of strength.
Even religion has not been immune. Liberation Theology emerged in Latin America by blending Christian language with Marxist political theory. Its critics argued that it shifted Christianity’s focus away from salvation and toward political revolution. They contended that it transformed the Gospel into a vehicle for class struggle. Whether one accepts that critique or not, the tension between Christianity and Marxism remains obvious. One places God at the center of human life. The other places political power at the center.
Perhaps nowhere is the cultural battle more visible than in entertainment itself. Consider the two cinematic portrayals of the apparitions at Fatima. The 1952 Warner Brothers film “The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima” explicitly and accurately referenced the Blessed Virgin Mary’s warning that Russia would spread its errors throughout the world. The film reflected the historical reality that the Fatima message emerged against the backdrop of the Bolshevik Revolution and the rise of international communism. By contrast, the 2020 film “Fatima” removed references to Russia and communism entirely. The historical warning remained, but the specific ideological context largely disappeared. Whether one views that omission as artistic choice or cultural revisionism, the contrast is striking. Remove the villain and the warning loses much of its force. Remove the historical context and future generations lose their understanding of why the warning mattered. This is how cultural memory is often transformed. Not through censorship alone but through omission, revision, and selective emphasis. .

I really am an old girl, so I remember my father watching and talking about the hearings. My dad was virulent anti-Communist. He had seen it firsthand before he came here. And inspite of all of this, very few have listened and even fewer have done anything about it.

I wrote paper on Joe McCarthy in high school many years ago. The title: “A guy named Joe”. I earned an A minus.
Joe McCarthy was proved to be right after all the facts came out. When the Verona intercepts, communications between the USSR and their agents in the USA, were declassified and published and the documents that came out of the KGB after the fall of the USSR showed that McCarthy was under stating the level of penetration and control of the US government by the soviets.

McCarthy didn't make his point IN THE CORRECT WAY. He was rejected because of how he presented himself. In too many ways, he acted like a 'fool' instead of having a personna that showed wisdom. People looked at him like he was a nutjob because of his actions. They didn't reject the information…..they rejected McCarthy.

When Gorbachev became the Supreme Leader of the Soviet Union he declassified many old KGB archives. These files showed that McCarthy was at least partially right.

The American press went on to defeat the US Army when hey fought communism in Viet Nam, and communists worked their way into our schools and local governments. Only now, after decades of being seduced and lied to , are they majority waking up and realizing how bad things have gotten. Trump can utilize the Communist Control Act of 1954, which criminalizes membership in the Communist Party and supporting it, as well as various state laws that still exist, which were enacted during the McCarthy era. These laws allow for significant penalties against individuals associated with communist organizations. He can also go after such organizations as:
Democrat-Socialists of America
Revolutionary Communists of America
Communist Party USA
Trump's mentor was Roy Marcus Cohn, who was known for prosecuting individuals with alleged ties to communism in America, most notably as part of the prosecution team in the trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (who were later executed). He also served as chief counsel to Senator Joseph McCarthy during the McCarthy hearings, which targeted suspected communists.
Then he can de-naturalize Mamdani (and others like him – along with his parents who help him) and deport them back to their native country. I would love to see all members of the Democrat-Socialists of America and Communist Party USA – all rounded up and put away from society.
So, what can President Trump do about all this Communist infiltration?
If President Trump is so inclined – he can dust off not one but TWO very powerful pieces of legislation dating back to the early era of the cold war.
The Internal Security act of 1950, or the Communist Control act of 1954.
By dusting off these pieces of legislation – by enforcing them – could attempt to do the following:
He can instruct the DOJ to open investigations into any groups organizations or individuals who organize around Marxist or Leninist political philosophy that are advocating to overthrow or undermine the U.S. Republic. They’d be concerned about that.
OR
The DOJ could pursue criminal federal charges against anyone inside the U.S. who meets this criteria of trying to communistically undermine our republic. Or who has been actively working with any foreign entity that similarly meets this criteria. So, if you’re inside of America right now and you’re working with the Cuban Communist regime, with the North Korean Communist regime, with the Chinese Communist regime, guess what….criminal federal charges – it’s on the books….we already have the power to do this. What’s more Trump could also instruct the State Dept., to revoke the citizenship of naturalized U.S. citizens or they could also similarly revoke the legal immigrant status for any immigrant / individual inside of the U.S., who meets any of these criteria.
So, let’s brainstorm for a second and see what this would look like.
Somebody like Zohran Mamdani, who has publicly supported and espoused Communist Leninist – Marxist beliefs. He is a naturalized citizen – he was NOT born a U.S. citizen – he is an immigrant who came from Uganda with his parents to the U.S. a couple decades ago, and got his citizenship – he is now a Naturalized Citizenship – that Naturalized Citizenship can be revoked under these pretenses – Communist sympathies. It can be done – the legislation exists, alongside all of his other member cohorts across the country.
Another name that comes to mind is a man by the name of Hasan Piker, who is a big time Communist sympathizer, a Turkish immigrant who is a big left-wing communist broadcaster on Twitch and YouTube. Perhaps he would be another one we could get rid of under the same pretenses.
So, Trump said he’s going to go scorched earth against the Commies. Trump said he’s been preparing for a very long time – and his relationship with Roy Cohn – his mentor, Trump learned much from Cohen. It’s this type of stuff that we need to see if we truly want to put America first.

I knew it had been as you say, 'watered down'. And why I also brought up the 'McCarran' Internal Security Act of 1950. Democrat President Harry Truman vetoed the bill, but Congress overrode the veto, and it became law in 1950. So, there are other avenues to take. IF we do nothing – the Communist Party of America, and Democrat-Socialists of America will no doubt takeover the nation. Already we're witnessing a couple members in Congress who are Communists (one would be Bernie Sanders – who was recently photographed with Mamdani, and the other three who recently won their NY election.)

Ann Coulter did a column similar to this a few years ago. She named names and gave examples proving that Joe was absolutely correct. We need more leaders like him today so we can throw out all of the Democrats and most of the Republicans who are currently in power at every level of government.
Just looking at what has and is taking place today in America demonstrates that we are in real trouble and Trump cannot save us. It is a much larger problem than one man or woman. The effect of communist influnces can be traced to every institution in western civilization today. Including and especially, mayors, governors, congrats, former presidents, every feral judge and SCOTUS. Today, they are openly calling for the destruction of the constitution and Christianity.
