Groceries are priced strange where I live. For example, eggs are really cheap, but turkey is higher than beef. The small grocery chain here is often lower than the big ones and Walmart. Beef is up but that was a problem before Trump took office. The beef herd is at 1960 levels because of Democrats war in farmers and ranchers with a lot greater population. Ranchers had to reduce their herds over new grazing limits on federal lands and Biden's threat of a cow fart (methane) tax. It was already predicted ground beef would reach $10 dollars a lb before Trump ever took office.
It takes years to bring the beef herd back. 50% of calves are male, the females have to be kept for breeding not sold for beef and the gestation period is about 10
months plus it takes 18-24 months to bring a steer to market after the herd is increased.
Beef has gone down substantially here in cattle country .

My SSA COLA was 3% but my Medicare Part B premium went up 10%. I had to change my Advantage plan to a lower cost one that offers less. And many plans have cut back or eliminated any so-called extras.

Not like never been caught gouging people. The 50 years I’ve been driving has seen the gas station owner the big culprit most of the time.
It’s usually a conspiracy or “pact” between the stations that are all within 1/2 mile of each other. I’m sure that there’s some phone talk going on between the station owners and the independents that provide their fuel.
A better more permanent solution would be for the government to reduce the over-regulation of almost every single product sold in the US. The reason for high cost is directly associated with the regulations placed on businesses. Fees, fines, licensure, etc need to be minimal or non-existenet. If you provide a good product that is safe and effective people will purchase. If you harm people they should be able to sue your azz. Simple solution.

The only way retailers can help with inflation is if they were gouging in the first place. Profit margins are set based on supply costs, labor and other expenditures. There isn't much you can do with labor costs and suppliers charge what they charge. Rent, electricity, water, insurance, etc.etc. are what they are so the only area that can be cut is profit. And you can't cut profit but so low and have the business remain viable unless the profit margins were fat to begin with. Smoke and mirrors.

The oil companies all posted record profits this quarter when supposedly crude prices went up which should have lessened their income if they were keeping profit margins "reasonable". Chevron posted their highest profit ever and ExxonMobil almost quadrupled theirs. In my opinion we are being gouged by just about every retailer out there.
