Liberty and Justice for…Some – Is Justice Only for the Well-Connected?
By Kelly John Walker, FreedomTalk Magazine
On August 14, during a press briefing about Adam Schiff’s alleged leak of classified information, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt quoted Kash Patel, pledging that “with our partners at DOJ and Congress, we’ll have the chance to uncover how political power may have been weaponized and to restore accountability.”
Bold pledges from Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, and other Trump administration figures to expose political weaponization sound promising—but will that justice reach ordinary Americans or only the well-connected? The weaponization of government under the Biden administration is no longer in question—the evidence is overwhelming. Yet a troubling imbalance has emerged:
high-profile figures receive swift defense, while middle-class patriots—targeted for exercising their rights—are left to endure the life-shattering fallout of government persecution.
If the conservative movement is going to call out the privilege of the Left’s elites, we have an even greater duty to make sure we aren’t building a new class of our own.
When Bondi pledged to “back up Elon Musk every way we can,” the defense was immediate and decisive. Musk didn’t have to endure the years-long wait for justice that so many ordinary Americans still face. Meanwhile, countless parents and citizens—smeared, investigated, or prosecuted for standing up to school boards or attending protests—still await even a fraction of that urgency.
“We’re going to back up Elon Musk every way we can…” -Pam Bondi
Justice shouldn’t be for “members only.” The same mechanisms of transparency and accountability must apply to a single mom or dad prosecuted for speaking their conscience at a school meeting, just as they applied to Elon Musk.
This criticism isn’t meant to diminish accountability for powerful players—it is a reminder of the pledge of our Republic to provide “liberty and justice for all.” It is a reasonable demand for equitable treatment.
Every citizen, regardless of status, deserves equal access to truth and justice. That is the essence of our Republic—and a moral foundation of FreedomTalk Magazine. It is why I co-founded Parents Demanding Justice Alliance (PDJA) with education freedom advocate, filmmaker and author Sam Sorbo. Today, we refuse to accept a tiered system of justice.
“The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.” -Thomas Jefferson
When leaders promise to “uncover how political power may have been weaponized,” that pledge must extend beyond elite circles—the parent whose life was ruined by a false defamation claim, the small-business owner shut down for opposing government narratives, the whistleblower who lost everything for speaking up—their stories aren’t always headlines, but they deserve timely justice all the same.
For most middle-class victims of weaponization and lawfare, justice is out of reach. Crushing legal costs, short statutes of limitations, and loopholes that shield officials from accountability block their path. Meanwhile, the government wields unlimited taxpayer-funded resources and elite lawyers to grind down any citizen who dares to fight back.
This imbalance of power means that for thousands of Americans, justice isn’t merely delayed— it’s denied outright. That’s why PDJA is urging President Trump to sign our proposed Executive Order—restoring the victims of Biden-era targeting and holding perpetrators accountable.
Without it, these abuses will go unanswered, paving the way for even more brazen political retribution.
Earlier this month, Attorney General Bondi assigned Weaponization Working Group head Ed Martin as special attorney to investigate Schiff and Letitia James. PDJA met with Martin at DOJ headquarters in early June on behalf of parents across the nation. On July 15, at a Capitol Hill press conference sponsored by Congressman Andy Ogles, and introduced by Congressman Andy Biggs, numerous parenting group advocates, targeted parents and public figures joined PDJA to officially deliver our Dossier of Targeted Parents. Yet, to date, no action has been taken to address this travesty of justice continuing to harm parents across the nation. Their cries have gone unanswered, even as leftist activists double down with fresh waves of targeting against parents who dare to speak out.
Our Republic was “conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” It was meant to be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people—not a system that reserves justice for those with wealth or influence. If justice looks over the heads of the people to serve the powerful, freedom becomes a gated privilege—and a Republic truly becomes an oligarchy of the elite.
America is better than that, and it’s time we proved it.
