It was a tough night. The team looked cursed and stumbling. This play put them behind 3 – 1.
Not only is this a totally unforgivable play by Freese, but the utter lack of athleticism by Ream here is astonishing.

Man no offense to American "football' fans but I'm old school. I was never a fan of soccer with men running around with high socks and shorts kicking a ball and bumping it with their head. Just not my thing. Also games can end in ties and I've never seen a total game finish with more than a couple points. I guess it takes patience, which I don't really have.
The high socks are used to help cover/keep shin guards in place. It hurts taking a kick or worse, cleats to the shins.
So, why do you post on something where we're discussing soccer (Association Football)?
I mean, when we discuss American Football we don't have people come in and say they don't like it… so why do so many Americans feel that they have to criticize something they don't understand?
IMHO, futbol (soccer) is a much more interesting, and fluid, sport than American Football.
And, oh, did you watch today's game where Argentina beat Egypt 3-2 ( which is more goals, or points are you called it ) than you claim to have ever seen.
Today's game was a cliff hanger, not only for the play but for FIFA's politics and rumors and for how VAR is being misused and allowed to control the outcome of the game.
There's more politics in a World Cup game than in the entire season of the NFL.
Oh one more thing… in soccer, "points" is what teams get in league play after a match… 3 for a win, 1 for tie, 0 for a loss.
That's OK. Spain is going to annihilate them. Young males in the USA…Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey…as for Soccer, a distant 5th place. Soccer isn't even a blip on our radar.
Football is dropping in popularity due to concussions.
Hockey has a limited draw because of the equipment and facilities.
Soccer has both high school and league teams and some overlap and some that are exclusive where you cannot play club if you are on the HS team. It is okay in clubs year round.

Don't watch a ton of soccer but could tell right away the Belgium team was much better squad. Ball handling, playmaking etc. USA did not have a chance. They did well advancing to 16 though.

My comment was an addendum to the article, to point out, while noble after the game (in praying), they were ignoble during the match. This team may well be men of faith…well and good, however, they are in turmoil in the locker room and on the field as proven by their pathetic play and the final score. USA national men’s soccer needs a complete overhaul…starting at the top. Pray on….!
God has been doing something more important than soccer here – removing from many their former hatred of the U.S. and showing the world we can delight on one another even when we are on opposing teams. the USTeam perhaps should have accepted the Red Card, rather than risk appearing to have the unfair call overturned because Trump requested it. Belgium went bonkers and so much good will was threatened. Perhaps if the red card had remained, the team would have fought like tigers and won their match without him. We’ll never know. I suspect the Belgians were furious and gave it everything they had, and the Americans might have felt something important had been lost. They lost heart maybe. Or they just didn’t get the grace to do their best. But they got the grace to be gracious in defeat which given what the Lord is working to accomplish here was more important than their winning.

The USA team played back field too much. While sending it back and forth between the defenders is a good strategy for a while, need to get it to the other end of the field to score some actual points. Like the last goal with 2 minutes left, had they gotten it out of there, would have kept them from scoring.
Yeah – They just didn't have many shots-on-goal, which is ultimately what wins games.
It was ugly to watch, but overall the experience had been an amazing showcase to the world of the American way.

it seems like Belgian should be feeling a little foolish over the hissy fits they were throwing about the US team. they didn't appear to have much trouble putting them away. so why the waterworks? it made them look scared and silly.
Well, apparently that tactic worked; the US thought they had already won the match because Balogun was allowed to play again.
But their confidence took a serious hit when they conceded a goal in the first 5 minutes.
And then came the Belgian own goal; that gave the US some hope again, but it vanished quickly when the Belgians scored again within 5 minutes. And from then on, things only got worse.
I don't understand what people see in Balogun; he barely touched the ball for 85 minutes. A real striker looks for the ball and then runs it into the goal.

It wasn't the teams best performance, but they got out there and played. You have good days and bad days, That's life. The opposing team was superb.

They played horrendous. No vertical game, just trying to pass the ball around, bad passes, bad tackles, no imagination, no energy, lack of situational awareness.. and that 3rd goal was simply abysmal.
