Jesus’ Sufferings – The First of Three Beatings
UnderDog Report #118[1]
Holy Week Horror
Do you really know the extent of the beatings Jesus had to endure? Most people have seen the movie “The Passion of the Christ” and believe that is all Jesus had to endure, but in truth Iit was only an example of what He had to go through, it was horrible!
With this being Holy Week, it is appropriate to highlight in this post and the associated video, one of the three terrible beatings Jesus went through. I could only fit the first of three beatings in the video. Here are the beatings Jesus endured:
1. From the Palace Guards before the Chief Priest Caiaphas
2. During a trial before Pontius Pilate
3. In the Roman Pratorium with 600 Roman guards, where the beating went on through the night
Satan was told way back in Genesis Chapter Three that the Messiah was coming to kill him. Satan thought he was winning the war here. Do you think for a second Satan held back anything at all to punish and torture Jesus. No, and the is why Jesus’ sweat was like blood when he was in the Garden, because he knew the horrible extent of evil that awaited Him.
Jesus probably did not sleep the night before His arrest when he was praying since He was arrested while it was still dark. In all likelihood, he did not sleep during the next two nights also. The means he could have been awake for almost four entire days!
The Beating by Palace Guards before the Chief Priest Caiaphas
This video below is a review of Chapter 20, from the book, The Jesus Gospel. It begins with Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane and ends after Peter’s sixth and final denial of Jesus. During the hours during this first beating, we see Jesus being spite on, mocked, and ruthless beating.
One of the Most Chilling Events in the Entire Bible
The chapter concludes with one of the most chilling events in the entire Bible, in my opinion. After hours of being beaten and at the exact movement after Peter’s sixth denial and the second time the roster crowed, Jesus turns around while being beat and locks eyes with Peter, who is standing outside with others by a fire. Remember, Peter had told Jesus three times he would never deny Him. Jesus had the presence of mind to turn at this exact moment, as he is being beaten, to turn and look at Peter. It was then Peter recalled what he said ,and went away crying. What an intense scene.
Jesus Suffered More Than Any Human Ever Could
Not covered in the video are Chapters 21 -23 which reviews Jesus’ other beatings and his crucifixion. This is why Jesus Christ, in my opinion, suffered more than any human being possibly could, because he had to keep himself alive to die at a very exact moment. And that moment was in the twilight or 3PM in the afternoon on the Preparation Day, which is the day before Passover.
The Preparation Day
At 3 PM in the afternoon, all families that could afford it, would take their Passover Lamb without spot or blemish. They would then cut the throat of the lamb, killing it for the Passover meal later that night, which by Jewish reckoning was the next day. ‘Well-off’ families were required to host people who could not afford to own or purchase a lamb for the feast.
At that exact time, 3PM in the afternoon, the temple would blow horns loudly for all the people to hear. It was required that every Jew would stop what they were doing for a moment and bow their head in reverance to the passover a lamb, whose blood saved them back in Egypt.
Little do they know that at that Jesus Christ, Passover Lamb that takes the sin away of the world, was dying. A little did they know that he was the Passover Lamb. That is why I believe Jesus Christ suffered more than anyone else could possibly have. We know He was tempted in ALL things. Jesus kept himself alive for three days and three nights of beatings before he died on the cross at the exact moment he was supposed to. He is our Passover Lamb. He is our Savoir, He takes away the sins of the world.
Think of these things as you celebrate Jesus’ resurrection!
