For some reason Mike Sessa was not given compassionate release in 2024 and released from prison.
Mike Sessa has been in prison for over a third of a century and more than half of his lifetime after Andrew Weissmann ran a corrupt case against him in the early 1990s.
Sessa was a young father with a daughter who was barely a month old when he turned himself in after being notified of an arrest warrant against him. He has been incarcerated ever since.
In April of 2024 Mike Sessa was reviewed for compassionate release in front of Judge Allyne Ross, a Clinton Judge, in the Eastern District of New York. Judge Ross refused Sessa’s release in a “baffling” and “mystifying” ruling.
One individual wrote Judge Ross after her ruling. He compared her decisions with similar cases and other cases she reviewed in the past. Frederick Pulisi shared:
If there as ever a case of enormous “Disparity in Sentencing” Michael Sessa’s Case is surely it!! There was no “Equal Protection Under the Law” in this case!! He did not have a “Fair and Impartial” Judge in his case!! Your decision on Michael[s] Sessa case is “Mindboggling” when contrast to all the other cases connected and unconnected, to fairness, to the public, to the victims’ family members and the innocent family members of Michael Sessa. How did you get it so wrong?

A third letter shared the following (there were more letters). In this letter the author questions the judge’s rationale for keeping Sessa in prison when Sessa’s older brother Carmine Sessa, who was sentenced by Judge Weinstein, absconded, was caught in 1993, admitted to being a leader [in the] Colombo Family Consiglieri; admitted to committing 15 murders – which also included order the murder that Michael Sessa is charged with – was sentence by Judge Weinstein to time served after spending less than 5 years in prison, with is equivalent to 4 months per murder.”
