I Don’t Make Enough Money To Go To Church
Of course this is a silly question and it’s just designed to get your attention. I do not want to be disparaging churches because they are an important part of this country of the culture, and it keeps a society together. I encourage you to go to church and be part of the Church family.
But sometimes churches do say “You have to get plugged in.” That makes people feel like they are some type of electronic tool allows for some to be treated better than others because they are more “plugged in.” We are not tools, we are sons and daughters of the creator of the universe. We want to be valued for who we are and treated like a brother or a sister. I want to reply to the family of Christ.
Have you ever gone to a church and feel like you just don’t belong. Like you just don’t fit in with the “in crowd.” Some say these people are “climbers,” social climbers in the church. They will step over others to get ahead. These tend to be the popular or financially well-off people who seem to be accepted much quicker. They go to dinner with the pastor, they are with the “in group.’
Leviticus 19:15 (NIV) “‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly. I’ve been looking at that photo you sent this morning it’s so cute
The Plentiful, the Popular, and the Powerful, Pervert the Peaceful
Leviticus shows us the 5 P’s, where the Plentiful, the Popular, and the Powerful, Pervert the Peaceful. It morphs into special treatment of those who have plenty, are popular, or are powerful. It’s culturally acceptable to show preference to these types of people, but the culture is almost always in antithesis to the word of God. Do you ever feel like you will never be in this group because you say “I Don’t Make Enough Money To Go To Church?.” It’s almost popular popularity contest. But the gospels tell us clearly that should not be the case with us. We should value you each other equally.
Be of One Mind the Family of Christ
This one mind is well covered in Philippians, Chapter 2. And the theme is to humble yourself. To value others above yourself. Let’s look at Philippians Chapter 2. Specific verses are outlined here with the full verse in the footnotes.
- Philippians Chapter 2:1: (many times the word “if” should be translated as “since’) [1]
- Since you are encouraged
- Since you are united with Christ
- Since you are comforted
- Since you share common ground with others in the spirit
- Since you have tenderness and compassion…
What a fantastic introduction to a chapter. In one sentence, there are so many positive things that we are told we already are. Why am I am good person, because of Jesus. Why am I a good Friend, because of Jesus. Why can people rely on me, because of Jesus. Why don’t I steal, cheat, and take advantage of others, because of Jesus. Why am I encouraged to be united with others, to comfort, and share with others, to have tenderness and compassion? It’s all because of Jesus.
Your Words Only Matter When They Match Your Actions
- Philippians Chapter 2:2: [2]
- Be like-minded-The same attitude and passion about the Lord and His ministry. Many times people make this about doctrine, but there are many ‘doctrines’ that different Demonization’s exalt (Saints, what happens when you die, what is there pain and suffering on earth, what is the Sabbath, etc.). Can people believe differently on these items (But not all things) and still be saved? Absolutely. See Romans 10:9-10. God looks at your heart, not your head. How you act, not what you know. How you love, not what your opinions are on different parts of the Bible. People can be completely wrong on their beliefs compared to a knowable teacher, and be loved and rewarded more by God.
- The is a saying that goes like this “Actions are the irrefutable proof that words have no meaning.” Let the words of Christ show that your actions match.
- Have the same love
- Dear one spirit and one mind
Being in one mind, and that is the mind of Christ, because Christ gave everything of himself for us, and we should give ourselves to others in that way we are minded. That is the best way to get along with one another
- Philippians Chapter 2:3: [3]
- Don’t be selfish, ambitious, or conceited
- Be humble and value others above yourself
- Vs 4 [4]
- Don’t look to your own interests, but value others
- Vs 5 [5]
- Have a Humble mindset with others
- Vs 11 & 14 [6] [7]
- Don’t Grumble or complain or argue
- Vs 12 [8]
- work out your [OWN] salvation with fear and trembling, (Not someone else’s)
This all could be simply be summed up by being humble in your spirit and treating others as more highly than you would treat yourself. As Jesus said, “Go out and do likewise.’
