On December 1, 2025, Donald Trump pardoned the former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández. He was in a US prison.
Hernández had served less than four years of a 45-year sentence when he was pardoned. He was 57.
Hernández walked out of FCI Hazelton on the day Trump signed the pardon.
The US Attorney for the Southern District of New York had convicted him in March 2024 of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, along with two weapons charges connected to a bribe by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
It was an odd shift in fortunes.
As President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández had been a partner in the requests that American presidents made of Honduras during his eight years in office.
He extradited more drug traffickers to the United States than any Honduran president before him. He worked with the DEA, the FBI, and U.S. Southern Command.
He cooperated on migration, slowing the northbound flow when Washington asked. He kept Honduras aligned with Taiwan, despite years of Chinese pressure to switch.
He was an ally.
Then he left office after two terms in office.
Xiomara Castro and the Libre party came into power on January 27, 2022. The Libre party’s foreign policy orientation was the opposite of Hernández’s on issues that American officials care about.
Closer ties with Venezuela and Cuba.
Skepticism of the United States. And, 14 months after Castro took office, in March 2023, Honduras switched its diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to the People’s Republic of China.
Switching to China led to the closure of the Taiwanese embassy. It opened a Chinese one. Castro did it to bring Chinese state investment, Chinese intelligence presence, and Chinese strategic influence into a country 90 minutes by plane from Texas.
The post-Hernandez Honduran realignment is what American foreign policy had spent decades trying to prevent.
That didn’t stop the Biden DOJ from indicting Hernández on January 27, 2022 — the same day Castro was inaugurated, as if it was almost a tip of the hat to Castro and the Chinese.

I was born in Honduras and still have family there. I am now a naturalized US citizen as of March of 1985. That does not mean I know nothing about Honduras and its politics or all about its politics.
How did you learn this? Where did you get this information? I would like to know. This is truly news to me and I do keep up with Honduran news, but not as well as I do US news.
I will waste a little time/effort on this, but I do NOT actually believe it. JOH did much good sabotaging/arresting druggies coming to America because Honduras was a big time aviation gas pit stop for fueling airplanes between Venezuela and Columbia North bound to the US. Why? Honduras has many very nice airports…. many so it was the logical pit stop!!
Lastly, during his administration, his military busted and obtained many loads of drugs too from the Caribbean Sea too near The Bay islands of Honduras. (Also some nice airports @ The Bay Islands for refueling.) However, ridding themselves of their heavy loads were in their best interests to try to escape the Honduran military. I recall this so I was perplexed by his downfall. But do enlighten me.

The point being that this CRIMINAL Family — headed by DIRTY JOE, the ultra-corrupted pedophile — did NOT do what they have appeared to have done — including selling out We The People and clearing the way for killer psychopathic drug traffickers as is described in this article — and NOT GET PAID, perhaps massively, with the Big Guy himself getting 10%
POTUS Trump, in the opinions of many, is running FULL SPEED AHEAD with the promotion and enactment of his MAGA AGENDA; however, I suspect that his overall plans include the understanding that for MAGA to do what MAGA needs to do, Trump, along with We The People who he needs to assisty with the heavy lifting, will need several more terms of Admin and Congressional control … which, in turn, his apostles will then be able to dominate the Federal Judicial System.
This longer-term control is so critical because a primary reason for just that is for MAGA to work long and hard to FLUSH OUT the krap-filled toilet bowl, aka The DC Beltway. This is in view of what many perceive as fact that it is our Legal System and its SYSTEMIC CORRUPTION — and such includes the Biden-type Corruption — that is in the most serious need of DJT-type MAGA attention and repair.
The DC LEGAL Community, to me, is the ultimate self-erving sociopathic Legion of Doom — with maybe elements of it being psychopathic — a truly evil motley group that has become so interconnected in so many ways. It will be a tough nut to crack… but, IF the Swamp is to be Drained — and the evil Biden Family is part of its upper level targets — it is the corrupted DC legal community metastasized cancer that will need to be cut out.
It is not going to be easy — the trek will be long and vexing — but with POTUS Trump, such may be the best chance in a generation we as a nation will have, but only IF we collectively choose to take it.
