From Burger King to the Governor’s Office – Katie Hobbs Takes Control
Vetoes, Appointments, Contracts — and the Expanding Reach of Executive Power
THE THREE MUSKETEERS: THE KATIE HOBBS FILE – PART 2
Guest post by Linda Brickman
SECTION 1. THE GOVERNOR ARRIVES WITH A PEN
Katie Hobbs did not enter the Governor’s Office quietly.
She arrived promising cooperation, moderation, and a willingness to work across party lines. Arizona voters had elected a Democratic governor and a Republican-controlled Legislature. That arrangement seemed to require negotiation.
But Hobbs found another instrument…
The VETO PEN.
During her first year in office, Hobbs vetoed 143 bills — more than any Arizona governor had rejected in a single legislative session. In 2024, she vetoed another 73. By the end of her first two years, **216 bills had died beneath her signature.**
Some deserved serious scrutiny. Some raised constitutional questions. Others reflected genuine policy differences between a Democratic governor and Republican legislators.
But the sheer volume told its own story…
Hobbs was not merely rejecting occasional legislation she considered flawed. The veto had become one of the Central Governing Tools of her administration.
When Republican lawmakers sent her a package of thirteen budget bills in February 2023, Hobbs rejected all thirteen. She dismissed the legislation as offering Arizona “false choices” and insisted that the budget should be negotiated as a complete agreement.
That position was politically indefensible.
It was also revealing.
The governor who had campaigned as a bipartisan problem-solver was making clear that cooperation would occur largely on her terms — or not at all.
The pattern extended beyond the budget. Election legislation, border-security measures, housing reforms, education bills, and restrictions on executive authority repeatedly reached her desk and repeatedly returned to the Legislature stamped:
VETOED.
Supporters called it a necessary defense against Republican overreach.
Critics called her the Veto Queen.
Both descriptions avoided the larger question:
Was Katie Hobbs preventing bad legislation — or intentionally using gridlock to expand the power of the Governor’s Office?
The answer would not be found in the veto record alone.
It would also emerge through appointments that avoided Senate confirmation, agency leadership disputes, government contracts, public money, political contributors, and an administration that increasingly asked Arizonans to trust decisions made beyond public view.
The Burger King employee who had quickly climbed Arizona’s political ladder had finally reached the top.
Now Arizona was about to learn how she intended to rule from it.
SECTION 2. APPOINTMENTS WITHOUT PERMISSION
- A veto allows a governor to stop someone else’s decision.
- An appointment allows her to make one of her own.
Arizona law requires the Governor’s choices for major agency directorships to undergo Senate review and confirmation. The arrangement is intentionally inconvenient. The Governor selects. The Senate examines. Neither branch receives complete control.
Katie Hobbs soon decided the process was not merely inconvenient. She called it a “political circus.”
During 2023, the Republican-controlled Senate created a special committee to examine Hobbs’s nominees. Some were subjected to aggressive questioning. Several were rejected. Others waited months without receiving confirmation hearings or final votes.
Hobbs accused Senate Republicans of abusing the confirmation process and deliberately obstructing her administration.
Republicans argued that scrutiny was precisely what confirmation required.
Then Hobbs changed the act.
In September 2023, she withdrew thirteen pending agency-director nominations from Senate consideration. But the nominees did not necessarily leave their agencies. Instead, members of her administration were redesignated as “executive deputy directors” and continued leading the same departments without Senate confirmation.
Same agencies. Same authority. Different Titles.
The Governor portrayed the maneuver as necessary to keep Arizona government functioning. Her office argued that Senate leaders had transformed legitimate vetting into partisan warfare and that agencies could not remain leaderless while politicians fought.
Senate President Warren Petersen saw something else: A Governor attempting to erase the Senate from a process Arizona law required it to perform.
The dispute moved from the Capitol to the courtroom. On June 5, 2024, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Scott Blaney ruled that Hobbs had acted illegally. The so-called executive deputy directors were functioning as de facto agency directors, the court concluded, and the arrangement unlawfully circumvented the Senate-confirmation process.
Hobbs appealed. Her administration warned that allowing the Senate to dictate who could manage executive agencies would permit legislators to “shackle” the executive branch.
But by August 2024, the maneuver had reached the end of the runway. Hobbs agreed to resume submitting agency-director nominees to the Senate, and the court formally ordered her to restore the legally required confirmation process.
The agreement resolved the immediate standoff. It did not erase what the episode revealed…
Katie Hobbs had campaigned as an experienced leader who could work across party lines. Yet when the Legislature exercised its authority over appointments, her administration did not merely negotiate harder. It attempted to redesign the positions.
The Governor’s defense deserves consideration. Senate hearings had become intensely partisan. Nominees were questioned about subjects far beyond their professional résumés. Some waited months while agencies needed leadership. Even critics of Hobbs could reasonably question whether the process had become more political than productive.
But obstruction by one branch does not automatically transfer its constitutional or statutory authority to another. That is the purpose of checks and balances. They are most important when both sides find them unbearable.
The veto record showed how Katie Hobbs used power to put the law clearly placed in her hands.
The appointment battle showed what happened when the law required her to share it.
When the door to confirmation would not open, the Hobbs administration did not wait outside. It changed the name on the office and walked around the building.
And appointments were only the beginning…
The next questions would involve government contracts, political relationships — and one expensive Arizona logo whose family connections proved considerably more interesting than its design.
SECTION 3 The Expensive Logo and Its Fascinating Family Tree
Government contracts rarely arrive wearing warning labels. Sometimes they arrive as LOGOS.
In August 2024, Hobbs proudly unveiled “Vibrant Arizona,” a new statewide brand intended to promote tourism and create a common identity for state agencies. The Arizona Office of Tourism described a year-long process involving dozens of communities, more than 2,000 participants, a statewide survey, marketing strategy, a brand playbook, videos, templates — and a colorful new Arizona logo.
The total reported cost was approximately $700,000. That figure was not merely the price of drawing a logo, as critics sometimes suggested. It covered the broader branding project.
But the logo contained something the promotional campaign had not advertised: A remarkably interesting family connection.
The Office of Tourism was headed by Lisa Urias, a Hobbs appointee who continued to own the communications company bearing her name, although she said she had separated herself financially from its daily operations.
Heart & Soul Marketing received the state branding work. Artist Kevin Coochwytewa was then paid a reported $27,500 to help create the design appearing inside the logo’s sun.
Kevin Coochwytewa’s brother, Jason Coochwytewa, was the chief executive officer of Urias Communications — the company founded and owned by Tourism Director Lisa Urias. Lisa Urias acknowledged recommending Kevin for the project, although she maintained that Heart & Soul selected and paid him and that neither she nor Urias Communications profited from the arrangement.
No public finding established that Hobbs personally directed the payment or that Urias received money from it.
But Government Ethics are not measured only by whether someone ultimately deposits the check.
They are also measured by disclosure, distance, oversight — and whether the public has reason to wonder why a state contract begins resembling an organizational chart at a family reunion.
When the relationships became public in November 2024, Republican legislators demanded an investigation. Urias denounced the allegations as false and politically motivated, but submitted her resignation. Hobbs accepted it.
“Anyone who has the privilege of serving the public needs to be above reproach,” the Governor said. “This appearance of conflict is not acceptable.”
The statement was decisive. It also raised an uncomfortable question. The branding initiative had begun under Hobbs’s administration. Her appointee had overseen it. Hobbs had publicly celebrated its unveiling. Yet the appearance of conflict apparently became unacceptable only after reporters exposed the relationships and legislators began demanding answers.
The project remained.
The logo remained.
The tourism director did not.
And while Arizona debated the price of its new image, another state agency had already sent $2 million to people who had no right to receive it.
SECTION 4. WHEN TWO MILLION DOLLARS DISAPPEARED
The tourism controversy involved an appearance of conflict. The Arizona Department of Housing presented something considerably less theoretical: Two million dollars disappeared.
In June 2023, the department wired $2 million in affordable-housing funds to criminals impersonating the intended nonprofit recipient and title company. The legitimate recipient did not receive the money. By the time the fraud was discovered months later, the funds had reportedly traveled overseas.
The loss was not caused by a complicated policy disagreement or a hostile Legislature. It resulted from a fraudulent request that should have been verified before the money left Arizona’s control.
A 2024 Arizona Auditor General report found that the Housing Department lacked adequate written procedures for confirming wire-transfer instructions and had failed to establish sufficient safeguards to prevent the fraud. The report identified weaknesses in oversight that allowed a request involving millions of public dollars to proceed without the independent verification such a transaction demanded.
There is no evidence that Katie Hobbs personally approved the wire transfer or knew that fraud was occurring. But governors rarely enter banking information themselves. They appoint agency leaders, establish expectations, oversee executive departments, and accept responsibility when government systems fail.
That is the Difference between Personal Participation and Executive Accountability.
Hobbs’s administration could properly argue that sophisticated fraud can strike governments under either political party and that responsibility rested primarily with agency personnel who handled the transaction.
But Arizona taxpayers could properly ask a simpler question:
How does an administration that demanded control over its agencies lose $2 million because no one made the necessary telephone call before pressing “send”?
The money vanished.
The audit remained.
And another agency under the Governor’s control had supplied critics with a new definition of executive management.
SECTION 5. THE PATTERN TAKES SHAPE
By the end of 2024, Katie Hobbs had completed the first half of her term. She had vetoed 216 bills.
She had withdrawn agency nominees and attempted to keep them in control under different titles — a maneuver a court ruled unlawful.
Her administration had celebrated a $700,000 tourism-branding project whose connections later produced an “appearance of conflict” serious enough to cost the tourism director her position.
And a state housing agency had transferred $2 million to criminals because basic verification safeguards were missing.
Each episode came with an explanation:
- The Legislature was obstructing her.
- The agencies needed functioning leadership.
- The branding project was broader than one logo.
- The tourism director denied profiting.
- The wire fraud occurred inside an agency, not at the Governor’s desk.
Some of those explanations were reasonable. Together, however, the episodes revealed a disturbing governing pattern:
Katie Hobbs repeatedly demanded the authority to control Arizona’s executive branch — but when controversy followed, responsibility became remarkably difficult to locate.
Meanwhile, another name was beginning to enter Arizona’s political conversation: Sunshine Residential Homes.
The foster-care provider had political and financial connections to Hobbs’s orbit and later received a substantial state rate increase. Hobbs has denied influencing the agency’s decision, and the early facts did not by themselves prove wrongdoing.
But the contributions, meetings, contracts, and rate decisions would eventually attract investigators — and lead Arizona back to the question that opened this series:
What followed Katie Hobbs up the ladder?
*************************************************
KATIE HOBBS HAD TAKEN CONTROL.
NOW THE RECORD WAS COMING DUE.
Part I examined how she reached the Governor’s Office.
Part II revealed how she exercised its power.
Part III will examine what happened when the money trails, agency decisions, investigations, and election-year consequences finally began arriving at the same destination.

PART III: THE RECORD COMES DUE
Campaign Money, Investigations, Agency Failures — and the Questions That Followed Katie Hobbs into the 2026 Election
So, just how many Burger Kings did she eat?
Ever work at a restaurant?
It’s hard work.
That doesn't answer my question, how many did Slobbs eat?
She personally sampled each and every package of french fries that went out her drive through window, for quality control purposes I'm sure.
From bathhouse and community organizer to the Whitehouse
This is what you get when you put women in power. 1st Timothy 2:12 Do not suffer a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over men. She is to sit in silence.
Hobbs is cartel. They launder using residential property deeds. Everyone is afraid of being cactus food.
Follow the money. She probably has a partner moving the money offshore.
PRISON,she stole the election!
Or worse
It is disgusting that Hobbs iscour Gov here in Az. 365 million in our budget went missing nothing ever happened to any one.
Repeal the 19th.
Carpet muncher!
could be !
Katie Hobbs: “If I can flip a burger, I can flip an election.”
Arse-hole
Stolen elections have consequences and thise is a prime example.
KooKoo Katie hasn't been able to reek too much havoc since the Legislature is GOP, but she is a disaster on illegals and water negotiations with upper basin states. She is an absolute idiot, dumber than a box of rocks.
Hobbs is illegal and illegitimate, but the people of AZ don't care.
That's sad, or maybe pathetic.
And how would you know that the people of AZ don't care you braindead POS. Give me the evidence or give the evidence what they should do if they care.
There's a ton of folks in Arizona, that wish she was still at Burger King, except the people who like to eat at Burger King.
AZ was going to rename the Loop 101 Freeway, to the Charlie Kirk freeway, but Hobbs vetoed it. She also vetoed Charlie Kirk/TPUSA vanity license plates.
I haven't had to block someone in a long time, never saw the guy before and his profile was locked, so, buh, bye Reagan pretender.
I HEARD THAT BUT THE LAME STREAM MEDIA NEVER MENTIONED IT, IMAGINE THAT, SO I SAW THE OUTCOME! ;)
What do you know about Kirk?
Do you still like him knowing that Tucker Carlson was his best friend?
(And still is today, if you believe.)
Because he is.
I wrote about Kari Lake last night and how I felt she is being channeled into something greater. I still feel this way. This obtuse fool Hobbs is incapable of fulfilling a simple drive up order!
I wrote about Kari Lake last night and how I felt she is being channeled into something greater. I still feel this way. This obtuse fool Hobbs is incapable of fulfilling a simple drive up order!
AZ was ground zero for rectifying the 2020 election. RINOs in their legislature squelched the audit's positive findings of fraud. They, too, must be on the take.
She lesbian'ed her way to the top.
Excellent reporting by Linda Brickman! I eagerly await the arrest of this vile cabal snake named Katie Hobbs.
Excellent reporting by Linda Brickman! I eagerly await the arrest of this vile cabal snake named Katie Hobbs.
The senators of Arizona were not elected, there was massive cheating-Maricopa County at the forefront of the fraud. And Karie Lake won the governorship, Hobbs directed the fraud from her office. Miss Burger King is a shrewd rat
Hobbs is too stoopid to govern. She is just the compliant flunkie for her chicom handlers. Meanwhile she refuses to debate Biggs and her veto total is a reported plus 540 bills
Hobbs has announced she will hold 100 town meetings to try and lie her way to a second term. The perfect places to wage protests against her corrupt term in office
An incredibly stupid woman.
Smart enough to get the Arizona public to let her do whatever she wants.
Right. And pay no attention to the man/men behind the curtain.
FU MORON!!! YOU MUST BE A DRAT trying to brainwash conservatives into believing she was elected instead of installed via rigged voting. You should be pithed you POS!!!
You’re a funny guy. No wonder you keyboard warrior on a private “Deal with it” account.
Right. Pay no attention to that man/men behind the curtain.
Out of the entire election stealing democrats scam, Arizona,….is the most egregious, in your face theft, yet, nothing happened to this con-woman.
Rosie??
She's turning into a lesbian…
Hobbs has always been a homosexual deviant.
Nothing will become of any facts showing this putrid thing as nothing more than the results of socialist democrat controlled elections with sheeple voting.
She must have been a lot better at Burger King, because she sucked as a governor.
Hobbs is a compromised PIG person..
Hobbs' crew cheated her into the Governor's mansion, and Cartel-Katie never earned, nor deserved one molecule of governor's regard.
The internet braindead won't understand the signficance of her veto count. Arizona is a REPUBLICAN state and she was FRAUDULENTLY elected. That is the reason why she vetoed so many bills. But since Americans are braindead, this will go unnoticed just like most everything else in this country.
* Simple explanation Katie Hobbs is a Witch ! #Evil = nothing
KATIE HOB-NOB NEEDS TO GO TO PRISON FOR STEALING AN ELECTION AND COME CLEAN ABOUT HER CONNECTIONS TO THE MEXICAN CARTELS
She's what you would call "…a piece of work!"
is this all you maga cultist do is cry like little bitches…………f///k so sad …….. it's sat. shouldn't you be going out to score some more meth and looking for next hooker to f&&&k man ya'll are sad bunch no wonder ya'll formed a cult
HAS ARIZONA RELEASED THE VOTER ROLLS TO THE DOJ AS REQUESTED?
NEVADA IS STILL STONEWALLING THAT REQUEST
From Burger King to criminal fraud fake Governor to Gitmo prisoner to traitor being escorted to the gallows.
what can be said about Katie Hobbs that hasn’t already been said? So I’ll say it again, “jail this criminal”!
Hobbs may be gaining traction with her ad claiming she shut down the Saudis from "stealing" our water and the misleading ad about Bigg's pushing for a 23% flat tax nationwide.
With so many unwilling to research facts on these issues, voters will buy it. I've yet to see on Republican add to counter the smear. I've blocked the RNCC's emails begging for money because of their gestapo tactics to "fund-raise" only to withhold financial backing to the best MAGA candidates.
She has the IQ of am amoeba and is controlled by the cartels.
SHE IS ANOTHER CORRUPT RADICAL LEFT MARXIST! VOTE RED ARIZONA, VOTE FOR ANDY BIGGS AND SAVE YOUR STATE OR YOU WILL BECOME CALIFORNIA!
Katie is nothing more than a corrupt imbecile who didn't win in the first place, hopefully Andy Biggs takes command of his own campaign and also has eyes and boots on the ground in Maricopa.
So why did THEY choose her?
.
Why is she free to break da LAW?
.
Do THEY really OWN Everyone and Everything?
Isn't Everyone Allowed to break the Laws these days? Even the SCOTUS and All JudgeAzzes?
Laws are only for da Little People! No LOL!
She stole two elections, and the machines that help her, are still used.
Hobbs is such a fraud that she's now saying that if she's reelected, she'll appoint a Republican as Lieutenant Governor.
Clearly saying this in an attempt to seem moderate.
The goods news is that last year AZ was forced to purge 240K inactive names from their voter rolls.
Also, the DOJ has announced that they will have election monitors in 3 AZ counties.
* Maricopa County
* Apache County
* Pima County
She is just another lying scumbag leftist…..AZ is so F' ed
Burger King
WHERE SHE LEARNED TO TELL VOTERS "HAVE IT YOUR WAY"
THEN SELL THEM A REAL WHOPPER!!
While on her knees….just like KH
America is so F'ed. The drats have been assimilating one state at a time via rigged elections and Americans are none the wiser.
Was the election real? Was there cheating? Was she really elected?
You need to ask?!
Not so much
More good news is that Arizona now has to purge voters who are registered in multiple counties which prevents multiple voting by the same person. The Republicans have a great chance of winning the Arizona governor's race. When they do, the first order of business is to greatly strengthen election integrity in Arizona.
You think the Drats can't counter that? They are prepared to do whatever it takes and you know why? There are no consequences to whatever they do. I'll bet that never occurred to you, because you're braindead.
Andy Biggs said yesterday in a campaign interview that his first order of business is border security and full Ice cooperation.
As they should because that’s how Arizona has a dem governor and 2 dem senators
It's the theme of the Democrat Party and communism… A COMMON PERSON DOING BIG THINGS.. from bartender to Congress… from working in a coffee barista house to Democrat primary election winner..From mamas basement to Congress .. from a community organizer to the president.. as you noticed all of these were just supposed to be average every day people doing big things.. that's communism
It's worse. They get, typically, low IQ people – the kind that often (not always!!) – have humble jobs. Nothing wrong with a humble job, and sometimes, highly intelligent people work those jobs, too. What the dems do is take the average because they are far more likely to do as told.
HobbRat took Control when she INSTALLED herself and her AG!
She THREATENED Anyone that Questioned the Election!
She Aided Cartels and illegal alien foreigners through the Open Borders. She Still Aids illegal aliens.
Sort of like Griswald in CO who theTrump DOJ has seemingly ignored ?
They’ve Ignored a Lot of Criminals
Refused to secure the border, that tells me she was a business partner with the multimillionaire Cartels for a "10%" cut in their profits for allowing them easy access into the US. And yes, a stolen election by whatever means they used to get her in office. She knows what is coming. MAGA
Dems are against sanity.
Snakes come in many shapes and looks.
Slobbs has certainly produced its / "her" share of whoppers…
Katie Hobbs is:
BAD for Business!
BAD for the state!
BAD for the people!
AND JUST PLAIN BAD ALL THE WAY AROUND!!!
With Katie Hobbs at the helm, Arizona won't survive long enough to vote for another governor!!!
Katie, don't go away mad, don't go away with your feelings hurt!!!
JUST, GO AWAY!!!
So the question is: Will Arizona voters fall for the ol’ bait and switch one more time?
Though I’m no fan of Hobbs, I don’t see anything wrong with her having worked at BK.
In fact, it seems elitist for TGP to mock her for it.
But then again, a lot of their writers are over-educated neocons who probably never worked at real jobs in their lives.
And didn’t Trump put in an hour at a Mickey D’s fry station to show he was a “man of the people?”
You can’t have it both ways.
But Burger Kings mottos is "Have it your way!" So how many ways did she have it?
You sure cannot, and YOU are an idiot who upvotes yourself!! Blocking material!!! Bye!!!
Gov Hobbs is worthless to the Az voters, she got into office thru crooked means started by Abe Fuentes, who is now our Sec of State. Our lib AG won by a mere 240 votes in an election where 60pct of voting machines in GOP heavy districts failed on Election Day. It was all a sham including all these of the above mentioned Leaches. They should all 3 never win another election in this or any state. The 3 of them should be a jail. Katie is as slimy as they come, she is a real life political ho who took a $400K bribe. Az let’s get ride of this trash in 2 years if she isn’t jailed prior.
Don't blame me. I voted for Kari.
EVERYONE I know in AZ voted for Kari
She thinks Arizona is its own little country and she is Queen Hobbs.
She would be better suited for Queen of the Roller Derby!
She is a crook through and through.
A straight up criminal .
Hobbs is a corrupt commie pos.
SHE STOLE THE ELECTION TWICE , ARIZONA IS THE WORST OFFENDER.
She is corrupt and a proven LIAR
Looks like she's been eating nothing but burger King and has a liver that looks like Rodney King after getting beaten up by the Tiger King.
She talks and thinks like a child, and is already refusing to debate in the next election. She's running ads here that say Andy Biggs wants more sales tax, but never mentions that it would replace income tax. Whether he's right or wrong, its a lie of omission and along with other things she's accused of, she's dangerous. Not because she's smart, she it not. She's propped up and put in place by a dem machine that is insatiable in its quest for power.
Go away Hobbs ya crooked wretch !
until public schools face serious correction, the hate America democrat party will continue to get elected .
The FCC must pull broadcast licenses from democrat owned TV networks.
Never ever vote democrat !
The dems are good at stealing elections like they did for this beast. It sucks when you have an incompetent Governor just like I do in NJ. Trump has to finally get rid of election fraud. We would never have had to deal with a loser like Biden.
And NO ONE is more to blame for this than those FREAKING RINOS that sabotaged Kari Lake’s campaign to be the Governor there. So WHO REALLY is at fault in Arizona?
I would never vote for any female with a butch haircut, an indication that she's already engaged in an effort to be what she isn't. Send her back to Whopper graduate school.
