There is much to be said of Caitlin Clark, the superstar at Iowa who is taking the WNBA by storm. Clark broke dozens and dozens of records while at Iowa in scoring and assists and took her team to the NCAA championship two years in a row. Clark was so good she broke men’s records – Pete Maravich’s record for career scoring and Stephen Curry’s record for most three pointers made in a season. She did this while also leading the country in assists.
Clark this week won two ESPY awards given by ESPN. She was the first woman to win the ESPY for the Best Record Breaking Performance in sports.
Clark was arguably the best woman’s basketball player that every played in college, but how does Clark line up in the WNBA? Based on current statistics, Clark is the best player in the WNBA and here is support.Â
Today’s data for 109 players in the WNBA was downloaded and reviewed. It was obtained from the WNBA page at ESPN.
There are only three women in the WNBA who are in the top 20 in the top five categories of scoring, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. They are Caitlin Clark, last year’s MVP Breanna Stewart, and Napheesa Collier from Minnesota.
Note that only Clark is also in the top 5 in 3-pointers made. The only WNBA player in the top 20 in six categories – points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and three pointers made – is Caitlin Clark.

Clark is the only guard in this list of players as well. And by the way she is the number one guard in the WNBA in fantasy basketball.
We also saw last week that Clark was number one in the WNBA in total points scored by shooting and assists. This no doubt has only increased since Clark this week had one game with 29 points and 13 assists and another with 20 points and 13 assists.

No one in the WNBA has ever made more points in five weeks than Clark has in the past five weeks off of shots and assists.

Clark to date is setting WNBA records and the season is only half over.
There is 1 player in #WNBA history who has recorded the following stats in a single season:
381 Points
175 Assists
136 Rebounds
65 3PT made
35 Steals

Today she has the second longest streak in the WNBA in double doubles with points and assists. This is also the longest double double streak in the WNBA today.

How does Angel Reese compare to Clark in these statistics? Last week, we saw Clark become the only WNBA rookie with a triple double.  Reese is being touted by some for Rookie of the Year over Clark because of her string of record breaking double doubles with points and rebounds. However, Reese is only in the top 20 in two top categories, rebounds where she is number one and steals where she is 12th.
Jason Whitlock has been following Reese and Clark and he doesn’t believe it’s even a race.
This is not rookie of the year. It’s basketball. Scoring matters. pic.twitter.com/HyQ6zhDWtJ

Along with Clarks MVP performance, Clark is leading rookies in the WNBA in scoring, etc. She also is setting WNBA records by the day.
