ALLAN J. FEIFER: Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Guest post by Allan J. Feifer

Culture, our government, our Ivy Halls of Learning, corporate governance people, and anyone responsible for DEI initiatives where they work (regardless of actual title) think this is serious stuff!  In an atmosphere where there’s an inability to define simple concepts like ‘what a woman is,’ there’s a lot of machinations employed to try and square the circle!  They can’t.

It’s worth noting that none other than JK Rowling has taken on the mantle of Crusader in Chief in Scotland.  Have you read about it?  As Europe goes, so goes America, I’ve heard said.  The new Scottish law creates a new crime of “stirring up hatred” relating to vulnerable persons.  All the rogue’s list of protected classes come to mind, from fatties to lesbians, from disabilities of all kinds to people with this or that particular proclivity, even those who claim to be “Furries.”  As my super liberal ‘friends’ say, “If you can think it, it must be true.’  Hmmm, maybe not!

The bottom line takeaway is that for the first time in modern history, if you live in Scotland, you must love your brother (or sister) under threat of law, up to and including financial penalties or criminal incarceration.  We have reached the previously impossible-to-believe reality envisaged by George Orwell in his prescient book 1984.  Initially published in 1949, it’s only taken us a bit over 70 years for what people described as incomprehensible, over the top, and fantasy to become reality.  All the trappings contained in the book, including conformity, absolute loyalty to the messages of the State, and the subsuming of one’s individuality to the needs of the collective, are all on full display with Scotland’s extension of the nanny state to speech.  Thank God we have Freedom of Speech enshrined in our Constitution.  Great Britain and Scotland do not.

What will it take to turn the wheel of history back to sanity?  Where’s Marie Antionette when you need her?  How about another Boston Tea Party or a repeat of the Whiskey Rebellion?  Most revolutions get started based on two wrongs the populace won’t stomach:

  1. The government taking your money (taxes) without general agreement, i.e., taxation without representation
  2. When the people of a country believe they have become enslaved, and it can’t be changed through established processes like voting.

Revolutions that begin as a result of excess are rarer still.  Typically, the population does not see up close and personally the excesses or can’t connect it to their poverty.  Marie Antoinette had much to do with the start of the French Revolution.  Here in our own country, there’s lots of talk about the one-percenters, but the trappings of wealth still flow down to the middle class, and people still have full bellies, albeit with borrowed money.  Our overlords have been quite brilliant at keeping up the facade of prosperity.  It’s a lot like the old company stores of yesteryear where you never seem to be able to get ahead, always owing the company money.  In this case, the company store is our government, and our debt is monumental, with every man, woman, and child owing $100,000 and climbing fast!

The bulk of those affected take it in stride with little thought about the long-term implications to their personal freedoms or what it means for their family’s success and happiness in the future.  Did you just hear that sharp cracking sound?  I did.

We are on the edge of a precipice.  I can best explain it by describing a long-ago experience flying fifty feet over the tabletop flat escarpment where the river Río Kerepacupai Merú in Venezuela flows towards and over Angels Falls.  While following the river, in a mere second or two, the escarpment’s edge comes up, and in the next second, you are more than 3,000 feet above the valley below.  Even though I knew what was coming, it always made my heart skip a beat.

It’s that way with most people’s personal economy.  A record number of people are draining their 401Ks, drawing money out of their home’s value, or making emergency redemptions from their pension plans to stay afloat.  People are often scared when they have to maintain a balance on a credit card at 30% or more.  They are equally frightened when they don’t see any end to the inflation Biden tells us he’s already solved.  He hasn’t.

It would be easy to throw up your hands and give up, with the thought there is nothing you can do.  That’s defeatist.  We can and must do more than we are, or we’re nothing more than a scared mouse whose only thought is to survive a bit longer.  We can do better; we must.  What exactly can we do?  Two things:

  1. Resolve what it means to be a free citizen in America. This means a lot.  You have your God-given rights, and those rights and responsibilities are guaranteed to you by the Constitution.  By yourself, there’s not a lot you can do.  But, join other similarly inclined individuals, and suddenly, you gain power and influence.  Therefore, rule number one is not to try to change everything alone.  There is strength in numbers, whether it is a political party, PAC, or another kind of pressure or influence group.  Join and be heard!
  2. There’s no way around it; we must elect people who can and will upset the status quo. Someone once told me that only 10% of people ever write a complaint letter to an elected official.  An even smaller number of people donate money to a candidate, and an even smaller sliver will work on a campaign.  Change that dynamic like your life depends on it.  It does!

The streets beckon if we don’t do these things and make a difference.  That’s not something to look forward to.  While not advocating for violence, history teaches us that when cornered, when we have nothing to lose, people can and do seek out alternative forms of justice.

At present, we are scared enough of our government and the harshness that was on display with how the J6 protesters were handled that the government got a temporary reprieve.  Let’s all use that to win at the ballot box and send those Marxist progressives to hell.  Let’s beat them at their own game.

Whatever it takes.

God Bless America.
